Our recently funded NIH-R01 grant investigates the important role of inflammation and insulin resistance in fatty liver and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), affecting 3 out of 4 individuals with obesity. Our projects apply newly created transgenic mouse models with altered immune cells in the liver in elegant metabolic, functional, molecular, and cell-based approaches using state-of-the-art 3D ultrasound to test our hypothesis. The student/trainee will learn various experimental approaches and participate in team-based projects. The student/trainee will also learn the investigative steps involving literature search, critical review of scientific papers, research design with rigor, data and statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation, and manuscript/abstract reviews and preparation.
