Each year, the GI department hosts both residents and medical students as part of the inpatient GI elective. Because of the nature of inpatient service rotations and the increasing work load on fellows, the elective system experience is highly variable for trainees. The goal of this project is to create a supplemental curriculum of various slide decks that can be used by trainees for supplemental learning or as a springboard for short attending or fellow lead discussions. The aim is to provide resources to ensure that all trainees have access to materials covering the basic topics that students and faculty have identified as important for anyone completing a GI inpatient elective.
The roles and responsibilities for anyone interested in this project include, but are not limited to, helping collect information from needs assessments to develop curriculum topics and to develop the topic slide decks. The goal is to implement the new curriculum in June 2025. Following this date, there will also be the opportunity for data collection and analysis on trainee satisfaction and knowledge acquisition.
