Description
Although coronary artery disease (CAD) is often associated with older adults, advanced imaging now detects CAD in younger patients under 50. This represents a critical opportunity for prevention, yet it is unclear how consistently these patients receive lifestyle counseling or preventive therapies such as statins. Early intervention in this group could significantly reduce future risk of heart attack or stroke. Students will review Epic EHR charts of patients under 50 with CAD findings on CT, recording whether providers recommended diet, exercise, weight management, or cholesterol-lowering medications. Data will be entered into a structured database for analysis. Students will then have opportunities to participate in data interpretation, abstract development, and manuscript preparation, with potential presentations at national meetings such as AMA, ACP, and preventive cardiology
conferences.
Goals
1. Review Epic EHR charts of patients under 50 with CAD findings on CT
2 .Data will be entered into a structured database for analysis.
3. Opportunities to participate in data interpretation, abstract development, and manuscript preparation
