Description
Brazilians in Medicine (BiM) is a mentorship and outreach initiative designed to support Brazilian and Brazilian-American students across the educational pipeline, from high school through medical school, who are interested in careers in medicine. The project aims to reduce informational, structural, and cultural barriers by providing near-peer mentorship, academic and professional guidance, and exposure to medical training pathways in the United States. BiM leverages student leadership, faculty mentorship, and community partnerships to create a sustainable and culturally responsive mentorship model. This project is intentionally designed as a longitudinal, team-based initiative that can be expanded and sustained by future Pathways cohorts.
Goals
Gather more data on incoming Brazilian students and their experience throughout their medical training at UMass. Continue to encourage and mentor highschool/college students on their path to medicine. Host events that are tailored to students needs including informational sessions, application to med school 101, simulation/exposure to healthcare, etc.
