Description
The DRIVE (Diversity, Representation, and Inclusion for Value in Education) Pathways Longitudinal Project (PLP) provides a structured opportunity for medical students to contribute to UMass Chan's institutional DRIVE initiative. DRIVE advances educational excellence through inclusive pedagogy—an evidence-informed approach to teaching, learning, and curriculum design that promotes belonging, learner engagement, and success while preparing future physicians to care for increasingly diverse communities. Through longitudinal mentorship and project-based learning, students partner with faculty and educational leaders to develop, implement, evaluate, and disseminate educational initiatives that support these institutional goals.
Guided by UMass Chan's institutional values of collaboration, service, innovation, accountability, belonging, compassion, humility, and health equity, students contribute to the continuous improvement of medical education by helping to develop, implement, evaluate, and disseminate educational initiatives that strengthen curriculum, learner engagement, and learning environments. Students serve as partners and co-creators in educational improvement, bringing the unique perspective of current learners while working alongside faculty mentors and institutional leaders.
Participation in the DRIVE PLP provides practical experience in curriculum development, educational assessment, teaching, program evaluation, and educational scholarship. These experiences prepare students for their future roles as physician educators and are particularly valuable for those interested in academic medicine, educational leadership, or careers that include teaching and mentorship.
