Description
The project aims to improve perinatal mental health outcomes among culturally diverse and immigrant pregnant patients by actively addressing one of the risk factors related to this outcome, namely a discussion regarding birthing preferences prior to the delivery date. The project aims to improve maternal outcomes by empowering patients, lessening the trauma that can occur before, during, and after the birth process, and improving maternal mental health.
Goals
expand beyond outreach and evaluate the impact of these
interventions more formally. Potential next steps for our project include conducting patient
interviews or surveys to better understand patient experiences and perceived preparedness for
birth, as well as exploring opportunities to analyze available patient data to assess whether
standardized education improves outcomes related to patient engagement, birth experiences
and peripartum mental health.
