Molecular Link Between Alzheimer's Disease and Type 2 Diabetes

By zammitti, 12 February, 2025

Our recently funded NIH-R01 grant investigates an important connection between Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes, focusing on the role of peripheral metabolism and inflammation in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. Our collaborative projects with Dr. Dori Schafer (Co-I on the grant) apply Alzheimer’s disease mouse models, such as 5xFAD and APP/PS1 mice, in elegant metabolic, neurobehavioral, molecular, and cell-based approaches to test our hypothesis. The student/trainee will learn various experimental approaches and participate in team-based projects. The student/trainee will also learn the investigative steps involving literature search, critical review of scientific papers, research design with rigor, data and statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation, and manuscript/abstract reviews and preparation.
